Diabetic foot disease, including neuropathy, arterial disease, and infection, can lead to ulceration and potential amputation. Experts believe diabetic foot ulcers could be further reduced. Temperature is a promising but underexploited parameter. Smartphones can now acquire thermal images using dedicated cameras. 

The STANDUP project proposes a smartphone-based system for mobile, accurate, user-friendly, low-cost, rapid thermal analysis of the plantar surface.
